Hunt County Awards

Completed award forms and recordbooks are due to the Hunt County Extension office on May 22nd, 2023, by 12:00 pm. Project completion forms are due July 14th, 2023, by 12:00 pm. We will not accept late forms.  Please read instructions in Award Guidelines carefully as items have changed.

Objective of the Hunt County 4-H Awards Program

The Hunt County 4-H Awards Program is designed to recognize the accomplishments of 4-H members for their project work, leadership skills, personal growth and development, and participation in various 4-H sponsored activities.

Award applications are due to the Hunt County AgriLife Extension office by May 22nd, 2023 by 12:00 pm.

Membership, Age, and Project Information

Membership

All award recipients must be actively in enrolled in Hunt County 4-H through the Texas 4-H Connect online system.  To enroll or edit your membership profile, please visit: https://www.4honline.com/.

4-H Age Divisions

  • Clover Kids – Grade Levels K-2*
  • Juniors – Grade Levels 3-5
  • Intermediates – Grade Levels 6-8
  • Seniors – Grade Levels 9-12

*Clover Kids are not eligible to participate in all traditional 4-H projects nor any competitions.

Projects

What defines a 4-H project?  A 4-H project has 4 components:

  1. Six or more sequential learning experiences of 20-60 minutes in length (each)
  2. Community Service
  3. Leadership
  4. Exhibition of project work, if applicable

Member Project Completion Pins

Project completion pins will be provided for all 4-H members who complete and turn in their project completion forms.  4-H members may receive one pin each year for every project they complete. Project completion pins will be presented at the annual Hunt County 4-H Awards Event.

Clover Kid Project Completion Pins

Hunt County follows the Texas 4-H guidelines for Clover Kids. Emphasis is on providing project-related learning experiences and forms of recognition which are age appropriate and based on current youth development research. The individual project is the basis for a significant part of the education in 4-H.

Projects and curricula approved by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service for Clover Kids include:

Curricula:

  • Hatching In The Classroom
  • Yea 4-H!
  • Junior Master Gardener

Projects:

Projects are restricted to those mentioned above which the youth can, by themselves, understand, manage, and care for and for which the youth can master the associated subject matter knowledge.

4-H Recordbook Awards

Award ribbons will be provided for all 4-H members who complete and turn in a 4-H Recordbook for the Hunt County 4-H Recordbook Judging Contest. 4-H members may receive one ribbon each year. Ribbons will be presented at the annual Hunt County 4-H Awards Event.  First place Recordbooks in each category will advance to District competition.

Outstanding 4-H Member Award

The Outstanding 4-H Member Award will be presented at the county level to one Junior 4-H member and one Intermediate 4-H member.  Award recipients display outstanding leadership and service learning through their 4-H project work.  Candidates will be well rounded in their interests and project work.  Candidates must submit a Recordbook at the county level.  Outstanding 4-H Member Award recipient will be selected by a judging panel.

Danforth “I Dare You” Award

William H. Danforth’s book, I Dare You, was first published in 1931. It is still considered one of the most influential books in personal motivation. I Dare You is published and distributed by the American Youth Foundation through its I Dare You committee.  The I Dare You Award is open to  Senior 4-H members.  Award recipients receive a copy of I Dare You, a certificate, and an invitation to apply for a scholarship to attend a 7-day International Leadership Conference (ILC) at one of A.Y.F.’s three sites (Michigan, New Hampshire, or California). The award recognizes excellence in character, well-balanced personal development, and potential for leadership.

Gold Star Award

The Gold Star Award is the highest county achievement award and may be awarded once during a 4-H member’s career. The award is presented to the most deserving 4-H members. Award recipients must have met the following requirements over their entire 4-H career:

  1. The member must be at least 15 at the time of application and must have completed at least three years in 4-H, including the current year.
  2. The 4-H member must submit an awards program record book in the year he or she is to be considered for the award.
  3. The 4-H member must have completed at least three projects, submitted appropriate record forms, and participated in one or more activities in at least three of the following areas:
      • Educational Presentations/Public Speaking
      • Citizenship Activities
      • Community Service
      • Project Exhibits
      • Camps
      • Leadership Labs
      • Public relations (speeches, poster displays, radio, TV, newspapers, etc.)
  4. The 4-H member must have exhibited leadership skills by serving as a 4-H officer or committee chairman (club county, district, or state), and/or as a junior or teen leader in an activity or project with or under the supervision of an adult volunteer leader.
  5. The 4-H member must have participated in one or more community service activities.

Hunt County 4-H Freddie and Carol Dale Giving Back Award

The Hunt County 4-H Giving Back Award will recognize one 4-H member in each age division (Junior, Intermediate, and Senior) who has gone above to give back to their community. A 4-H parent, club manager, or project leader may submit a nomination for one 4-H member in each age division (Junior, Intermediate, and Senior).  Nominations must be turned in by June 24th.  Winners will be recognized at the annual Hunt County  4-H Awards Event.
